What is this?

SP15 is the southern zone of the California power market (CAISO): an aggregation of generation nodes south of Path 15 — Los Angeles, San Diego — not the Arizona desert. The contract tracks day-ahead prices in Western peak hours: Monday–Saturday, 6 a.m.–10 p.m. Pacific, excluding NERC holidays. Midday solar weighs on the price; in the evening, air-conditioning stays on as photovoltaics drop off.

Utilities and merchants hedge Southern California peak here. This is not the Palo Verde hub.

Pitfalls

  • SP15 = CA power, not SoCal gas.
  • Peak only (no off-peak in this slug).
