What is this?

NYMEX natural gas is US gas delivered at Henry Hub, near Erath, Louisiana — a Sabine pipeline and storage node, not a wellhead. Delivery is at the buyer’s interconnection throughout the month; the gas must meet Sabine’s FERC tariff, a mix that is essentially methane. This is the contract the media call “US gas”. It is not a financial twin: delivery is physical, at the Hub.

Producers, power generators, industrials and LNG exporters hedge gas that actually moves through Erath. The market reacts to Thursday EIA storage and to heating or cooling weather; taking delivery needs capacity at the Hub. Most positions are closed before then.
