What is this?

The Mass Hub is still New England’s reference price — a basket of nodes in Massachusetts, not a plant. Off-peak, the contract averages day-ahead prices on weekday nights (11 p.m.–7 a.m. Eastern) and all hours on Saturdays, Sundays and NERC holidays. Load is lighter than the working day; gas often still sets the price, especially in deep cold.

Utilities and merchants hedge the New England trough here, not peak hours (7 a.m.–11 p.m. on weekdays).

  • Power, not gas.
  • Off-peak ≠ peak.
