Exposure to a rise in deliverable COMEX silver.

What is this?

COMEX silver is metal delivered through approved vaults — New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Massachusetts — by warrant, bars of 999 fineness. It is the most liquid US silver future. The metal is both industrial and monetary: electronics, solar cells, jewellery, coins. Most mine supply is a by-product of lead-zinc, copper and gold: output does not answer to the silver price alone.

Miners and refiners hedge inventory; electronics and solar fabricators, and jewellers, hedge the cost of buying it. It is not an ETF, and not over-the-counter London silver.

Pitfalls

  • Size is 5,000 oz (not 100 oz like gold GC).
  • Do not merge mini/micro silver into this COT line.
  • Producer/Merchant is not synonymous with “silver miner”.
