Exposure to a rise in the RBOB gasoline refining margin versus Brent (nearby average) — gasoline outperforming crude, not a Brent or RBOB long.

What is this?

This refining margin pits RBOB gasoline blendstock in New York Harbor against Brent, the international crude. The ICE future settles to the average of nearby NYMEX RBOB settlements, converted into barrels, minus the average of nearby ICE Brent. If gasoline outperforms crude, the margin widens.

Refiners and merchants hedge gasoline versus Brent here, not versus WTI. This is not deliverable RBOB, nor Brent itself.
