Exposure to a rise in deliverable US rough rice — grain still in the hull, not milled rice.

What is this?

Rough rice is paddy: the grain still in its hull, before milling. The CBOT future delivers US No. 2 or better long grain of southern origin, by shipping certificate from regular warehouses in twelve Arkansas counties — the heart of the Delta. It is not milled white rice, and not a Thai or Indian price. Long grain is about three-quarters of the US crop; Arkansas grows more than half of that.

Growers, elevators and mills hedge southern paddy.
